Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Roland Garros match.
Quentin Halys has been one of the unexpected standout performers at this year’s ATP Roland Garros. The Frenchman has already eliminated seeded player Tomas Machac and clay-court specialist Miomir Kecmanovic. He now goes up against Holger Rune, a top-10 player who has already claimed a title this season and is expected to pose a serious threat, even in front of the home crowd.
Quentin Halys
Away from Paris, Quentin Halys has struggled on clay, losing five of his nine matches on the surface this season — all in straight sets — and being eliminated in the first or second round in five consecutive tournaments. At Roland Garros, however, Quentin Halys has found his rhythm, overcoming No. 22-seeded Tomas Machac and No. 46-ranked Miomir Kecmanovic with a scoreline of 4:6, 6:3, 7:6, 7:5. It should be noted that Tomas Machac retired in the second set due to injury, while Miomir Kecmanovic pushed Halys to the limit, conceding only two breaks.
Holger Rune
Holger Rune has consistently delivered strong performances on clay, winning eight of his twelve matches on the surface this season. He secured the title in Barcelona, defeating three top-25 opponents — Karen Khachanov, Casper Ruud, and Carlos Alcaraz — along the way. At Roland Garros, the Dane defeated Roberto Bautista Agut (6:7, 6:4, 6:3, 6:2) and Emilio Nava (6:3, 7:6, 6:3). On average, Rune has won 72% of points on his first serve and has already fired in 13 aces. He has previously faced Quentin Halys once, beating him at Wimbledon last year (1:6, 6:7, 6:4, 7:6, 6:1).
Quentin Halys vs Holger Rune Prediction
While Quentin Halys may be able to take a set with the backing of the home crowd, it is unlikely he will do more than that. Holger Rune is the more complete player and has already shown his strength on clay this season — a win with a handicap looks the more favourable option.
