Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Roland Garros match.
Quentin Halys benefited from a fortunate draw in the first round, facing an injured Tomáš Macháč. However, the challenge ahead is significantly tougher: Miomir Kecmanović promises to be a far more demanding opponent, especially considering Halys's patchy form on clay.
Quentin Halys
Halys advanced after his first-round match ended midway through the second set (7:6, 4:1) due to his opponent’s retirement. As a result, he has not yet had the chance to fully acclimatise to the rhythm of the tournament. This lack of match exposure is a concern, particularly on a surface that remains his weakest. So far this season, he has managed just two wins in seven clay-court outings. Notably, those losses came against players ranked far from the top tier — Vit Kopriva (82nd) and Nikoloz Basilashvili (133rd).
Miomir Kecmanović
By contrast, it’s worth noting that Miomir Kecmanović has enjoyed considerably more match time on clay this season, featuring in 11 contests and securing five victories. Most impressively, he produced a spirited comeback in the opening round at Roland Garros against Sebastián Báez. After falling two sets behind, Kecmanović rallied to take the next three sets (6:4, 6:2, 6:2), without committing a single double fault and converting 50% of his break point opportunities.
Quentin Halys vs Miomir Kecmanović Prediction
That hard-fought victory over Sebastián Báez should serve as a significant confidence boost and gives Miomir Kecmanović the kind of momentum that can prove decisive in the early rounds of a Grand Slam. Crucially, he controlled the tempo for much of the match, suggesting energy levels remain high. All signs point to the Serbian as the clear favourite in this contest.
