As the curtain falls on the 2024/25 Segunda División season, this match carries little at stake. Racing Ferrol are already relegated, while Sporting Gijón sit safely in mid-table with no chance of promotion or playoff contention. Both teams will play for pride — but only one arrives with a spark.
Racing Ferrol
Racing Ferrol have endured a miserable season. After a promising 10th-place finish last year, they now sit second-bottom with 23 defeats — only one side has lost more. Their biggest issue? Goals. Racing Ferrol have scored the fewest in the division, averaging barely one every two games. In their last three matches, they found the net just once — though that lone goal did secure a 1:0 win over Cádiz. All three of those recent games finished under 2.5 total goals.
Sporting Gijón
It’s been a disappointing year for Gijón as well, especially after making the playoffs last season. They’re currently 14th and, at best, can climb to 11th. Their recent form reflects a side that has mentally checked out — just two wins in the last five matches, both at home. That said, their attack has remained active: in five of their last seven games, they’ve scored at least two goals. Even with nothing to play for, Sporting have shown more going forward than their hosts.
Racing Ferrol vs Sporting Gijón Prediction
Given Racing Ferrol’s poor attack, Sporting may not need much to avoid defeat. A draw is a strong possibility, but if anyone snatches a win, it’s likely to be the visitors — who’ve at least kept up their scoring output late in the season.
