Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Europa League match.
Both clubs sit mid-table in the Europa League standings and have already secured their places in the play-offs, though they will enter via the qualification stage. While they still have an outside chance of breaking into the top eight, several teams remain in contention ahead of them.
Rangers
Rangers could have already broken into the top eight had they not faced two financially superior English clubs in their last two Europa League matches. A home draw against Tottenham Hotspur (1:1) was followed by a heartbreaking loss to Manchester United (1:2) at Old Trafford, where they conceded the winner in the 92nd minute. Despite these setbacks, Rangers have scored in every group-stage match, though the only time they netted more than twice was in their 4:0 demolition of FCSB.
Union Saint-Gilloise
Union Saint-Gilloise secured their place in the play-offs with an impressive four-match unbeaten streak late in the group stage. While their home form has been strong (two wins, two draws), their away record is less convincing, with three defeats in four matches. However, all of those losses were by a single-goal margin, and they have never conceded more than two goals in an away match this campaign.
Rangers vs Union Saint-Gilloise Prediction
This should be a closely contested match, but Rangers are well-positioned to secure at least a draw, if not a narrow victory. However, given Union Saint-Gilloise’ defensive discipline, Rangers are unlikely to score more than two goals.
