Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Spanish La Liga match.
Girona played great last season, but this didn’t lead them to a sensational championship, but third place in the league was still amazing success. However, a very different team will play in an away game against Betis. Girona couldn’t keep their best players, and now it’s important for new players to play with their teammates before the Champions League starts.
Real Betis
At the end of last season, Betis almost fired Manuel Pellegrini after losing five games in a row. However, the experienced manager was able to get the team to the Conference League qualifiers. In summer, Betis won two out of six friendlies, losing badly to Liverpool (0:1) and Manchester United (2:3). Their only big signing was ex-Leeds and Roma defender Diego Llorente.
Girona
Girona had an even worse pre-season, only one win in seven matches. However, they still follow their coach’s ideas, in their last friendly against Bournemouth (2:3) players were active up front but only had four shots. Losing their best striker Artem Dovbyk could be crucial, the top scorer in La Liga will be substituted by Christian Stuani, who might not be as effective.
Real Betis - Girona Prediction
Last season in Seville, Betis and Girona had a 1:1 draw. Now the teams have changed and we shouldn’t expect attacking football in the first game. There will probably be no more than two goals scored.
