Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Europa League match.
One of the standout fixtures of the opening round in the Europa League group stage sees top-seeded Real Betis host third-seed Nottingham Forest, who still boast far deeper financial resources.
Real Betis
Breaking into the Champions League places in Spain is always a tall order, and last season Real Betis instead went on a memorable Conference League run. They reached the final but were outclassed by Chelsea (1:4). This time they had direct entry into the Europa League group stage, no qualifiers needed. In La Liga, Real Betis sit in eighth, within the European spots. Their last league outing came back in late August, drawing 1:1 with Celta Vigo, as the rest of their fixtures coincide with this first round of the Europa League.
Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest’s domestic form has been poor. They were held 1:1 by newly promoted Burnley, extending their winless run to five matches. For a side that narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification last season, their current 15th place in the Premier League is a major disappointment. Ange Postecoglou is still finding the right chemistry with his squad, and until that clicks, more slip-ups look likely.
Real Betis vs Nottingham Forest Prediction
While Nottingham Forest struggle to find their rhythm, Manuel Pellegrini’s Real Betis remain well-drilled and competitive, even with fewer resources. Their 3:1 win over Real Sociedad before the international break underlined their quality. Backed by home advantage, Real Betis look the safer bet here.
