Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Women's Champions League match.
The final round of the Women's Champions League group stage brings a headline clash. Clubs of the level of Real Madrid and Chelsea are poised to make waves in the knockout stages, with their first leg meeting (2:3) delivering an abundance of thrilling moments and impressive football.
Real Madrid (women)
In the five matches of this season's Champions League, Real Madrid have netted 19 goals—surpassing their London rivals, who lead the group with 17. However, the Madrid side were expected to handle the group underdogs, Twente and Celtic, with ease. Following their El Clasico defeat to Barcelona (0:4) a month ago, the Madrid team have yet to solidify their defence, conceding four goals in the subsequent four games.
Chelsea (women)
Chelsea's tremendous form had propelled them to a 14-match winning streak from the start of the season, only halted on Saturday with a draw away at Leicester City (1:1). It appears that they still haven't shown their full potential, with their star player Sam Kerr sidelined while recovering from injury since last season. Prior to the Leicester match, the team secured six consecutive away victories since May of this year, scoring a minimum of two goals in each encounter.
Real Madrid (women) vs Chelsea (women) Prediction
The October match in London saw Chelsea controlling the game, leading by two goals by the start of the second half. We back the robust form of the English side, who, thanks to their class and overall squad quality, are again likely to edge closer to victory.
