Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the La Liga match.
Both teams have made poor starts to the season and find themselves in the relegation zone after five rounds. Real Sociedad are struggling to adapt after summer squad changes, while Mallorca have faced a brutal run of fixtures against top opposition.
Real Sociedad
Real Sociedad have collected only two points, drawing with Valencia (1:1) and Espanyol (2:2), but losing their other three matches. Defensive frailty is a major concern, with nine goals conceded in five games, while creativity is lacking in attack despite the presence of Takefusa Kubo and Mikel Oyarzabal. Their latest outing was a 1:3 defeat to Real Betis, where more critical errors at the back proved costly. Substitute Arsen Zakharyan failed to change the game. Real Sociedad have created 6.91 xG but returned just five goals, underlining wastefulness in front of goal.
Mallorca
Mallorca also have two points but can point to a far tougher schedule, having already faced Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid. They managed to score against both Madrid giants and battled to a 1:1 draw with Atlético in their most recent match, thanks to Vedat Muriqi. The striker has been in sensational form, scoring four of Mallorca’s five goals this season. History is also on their side: since 2024 they have lost only once to Real Sociedad in five meetings, including two wins last season (1:0 and 2:0).
Real Sociedad vs Mallorca Prediction
Real Sociedad’s form raises serious doubts, with defensive lapses and poor finishing undermining them. Mallorca, meanwhile, are showing encouraging signs – goals against elite clubs and a red-hot Vedat Muriqi up front. The visitors have every chance of coming away with a result.
