Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the FIFA Club World Cup match.
The upcoming clash between Red Bull Salzburg and Al-Hilal on 22 June 2025 could prove pivotal in deciding who progresses to the knockout stage of the Club World Cup. Red Bull Salzburg began their campaign with a 2:1 win over Pachuca, while Al-Hilal exceeded expectations by holding Real Madrid to a 1:1 draw. Both sides are driven to succeed, but it is Al-Hilal who are under more pressure, having secured just one point thus far.
Red Bull Salzburg
Red Bull Salzburg earned their victory against Pachuca largely thanks to individual moments of quality from Oscar Gloukh and Karim Onisiwo, though overall their display was far from convincing. The Austrian team managed fewer shots on goal (10 to Pachuca’s 17) and produced only 0.91 xG, whereas the Mexican team registered 1.40 xG. Defensive concerns remain the key issue for Red Bull Salzburg, with the squad conceding in all but one of their last ten outings.
Al-Hilal
Al-Hilal, on the other hand, delivered a strong showing against Real Madrid. The team played on the front foot, generating 1.88 xG and attempting 13 shots. Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou played a decisive role, saving a penalty in the final moments. Even without Aleksandar Mitrović, Al-Hilal looked dangerous, with Marcos Leonardo and Salem Al-Dawsari rising to the occasion. Between them, the pair have scored 32 goals in the Saudi Pro League. Al-Hilal have now scored in 15 consecutive matches, and even a back line featuring Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Donny Huijsen for Real Madrid couldn't keep them out.
Red Bull Salzburg vs Al-Hilal Prediction
Despite their win over Pachuca, Red Bull Salzburg looked unconvincing. By contrast, Al-Hilal earned a credible result against Real Madrid and impressed with their performance. In this fixture, they are unlikely to squander the chance to secure all three points.
