Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Champions League Qualifying match.
The Champions League qualification phase is gradually approaching its conclusion. One of the most intriguing fixtures at this stage features Red Bull Salzburg taking on Club Brugge. Both teams participated in the main stage of Europe’s premier competition last season.
Red Bull Salzburg
Red Bull Salzburg began their qualification campaign in the quarter-finals, where they comfortably saw off SK Brann, winning 4:1 in the first leg before drawing 1:1 in the second leg. One of the standout performers in those matches was young midfielder Maurits Kjaergaard, who found the net in both legs. Additionally, Stefan Lainer has rejoined the squad this summer following a five-year stint with Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Club Brugge
In contrast, Club Brugge appear to have been weakened over the summer, as demonstrated by their disappointing start to the Belgian league season, which included a 2:1 defeat against mid-table side KV Mechelen. The squad lost one of their leading scorers, Ferran Jutglà (10 goals), as well as key defender Maxim De Cuyper during the transfer window. With no suitable replacements brought in, the early season form has been far from convincing.
Red Bull Salzburg vs Club Brugge Prediction
It’s evident that Red Bull Salzburg will be looking to take full advantage of home conditions to secure a result. Given the current struggles of Club Brugge, the Austrians are well positioned to come away with a favourable outcome. Dropping points here would be a serious setback for them.
