Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Belgian Pro League match.
Last weekend granted Racing Genk a comfortable three-point lead over Club Brugge, as they headed into Christmas at the top of the table. Royal Antwerp ended their four-match winless streak, but on Thursday, the former Belgian champions will face a tough challenge even with home support.
Royal Antwerp
Before their victory against top-flight newcomers Dender (3:1), Antwerp hadn't won in the league since the 9th of November—their only highlight in that period was progressing past Kortrijk in the Cup (1:0 after penalties). Their defence appears particularly unreliable, with 35-year-old Toby Alderweireld struggling to maintain his level. Antwerp have conceded 11 goals in their last seven matches, and on Saturday they were even outperformed by a mid-table side in xG (0.63 vs 0.71).
Racing Genk
Racing Genk quickly rebounded from their top-of-the-table clash defeat to Club Brugge (0:2) by securing a crucial three points against Anderlecht (2:0). Tolu Arokodare stepped up for the team, contributing a goal and an assist to close the gap on Kasper Dolberg in the scoring race (11+4 vs 12+1). Genk boast the league's second-best attack with 38 goals and have scored 15 times in 9 away matches.
Royal Antwerp vs Racing Genk Prediction
In the past year, Antwerp have suffered four consecutive defeats to Genk, conceding a total of seven unanswered goals. The visitors are expected to be more aggressive in front of the hosts’ goal.
