Adam Williams presents his prediction for the Scottish Open snooker match.
Ryan Day
Ryan Day had the best opening match of the Scottish Open—the Welshman overwhelmed Anthony McGill (4-1) with breaks of 136, 124, 99, and 53. Day's opponent was very focused, but after losing the first frame, Ryan allowed his opponent to score only 12 points over the next four frames. It's rare for a snooker player to sustain the highest level of play for several matches in succession, and Ryan Day can hardly boast of such consistency. However, Day has been playing confidently in recent matches and has been making several breaks consistently.
Mark Allen
Mark Allen defeated He Guoqiang (4-1) in his opening match with breaks of 104, 99, and 59. Mark is playing in a new style, and many fans do not favour it. They say that Mark has stopped playing spectacularly and aggressively and now wears down his opponents with long tactical periods. Allen does not deny that he is playing in an unusual style for himself, but it yields results—six trophies in the last two years are a clear confirmation of this.
Ryan Day vs Mark Allen Prediction
Allen is a big favourite in the match with Ryan Day, but we think Ryan, in his current form, can withstand such pressure from Allen. Ryan has played many matches against similar opponents and often takes the match to the deciding frame. We doubt that Day will display the same level of play as in the match with McGill, but Ryan is quite capable of taking two frames. We believe we are in for a match with a lot of safety shots, but both opponents are ready for such a game scenario.
