Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the NBA Summer League match.
With the California Classic and Salt Lake City games wrapped up, the main stage of the Summer League in Las Vegas is about to begin. While neither team ranks among the leading contenders for the title, this game provides a valuable glimpse into the progress of their young players and the potential future strength of their benches.
Sacramento Kings
The Sacramento Kings concluded last season on a disappointing note, falling short in the Play-In tournament following a loss to the Dallas Mavericks. The team is currently in search of a fresh start, and the Summer League offers a platform for prospective contributors alongside DeMar DeRozan to make their case. Notable names include Isaiah Stevens, who recently signed a two-year deal, and Patrick McCaffery, recognised for his efficient perimeter shooting (42.7% in NCAA play). The squad also added forward Nique Clifford with the 24th overall pick and centre Maxime Raynaud at No. 42, reflecting a deliberate effort to bolster roster depth.
Orlando Magic
The Orlando Magic enjoyed a slightly more successful regular season, reaching the playoffs before being eliminated in the first round following a loss to the Boston Celtics. During the off-season, the team secured Paolo Banchero on a long-term deal and brought in two promising prospects via the draft — guard Jase Richardson and forward Noah Penda. All eyes are particularly on 19-year-old Jase Richardson, who is expected to help address the squad’s perimeter-shooting shortcomings — he connected on 41.2% of his three-point attempts in the NCAA.
Sacramento Kings vs Orlando Magic Prediction
As the Sacramento Kings undergo a period of transition and continue to shape their developmental core, the Orlando Magic appear to have a more complete and NBA-ready Summer League squad, featuring players with league experience such as Tristan da Silva and E'Twaun Moore. Combined with their draft additions and emerging talent, the Magic look well-positioned to secure the win.
