Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the MLB match.
The losing streak that has followed the San Francisco Giants since their road series against the Los Angeles Dodgers has extended into their home games against the Cleveland Guardians. The Giants have dropped both games in the series so far, but they now hand the ball to their top starter — Logan Webb.
San Francisco Giants
Throughout his career, Logan Webb has been known more for generating ground balls than racking up strikeouts, but he has taken a step forward in that area this season. With just under a month remaining before the All-Star Game, the ace of the San Francisco Giants rotation has already recorded 105 strikeouts, including four starts with double-digit totals — matching his personal best for an entire campaign. In three of his last four starts, the San Francisco Giants games have finished under the line, with totals never surpassing 7.5 runs.
Cleveland Guardians
The Cleveland Guardians have also been involved in low-scoring contests of late, despite winning both games in the current series while managing just seven runs combined. In fact, across their last 10 appearances, the squad has scored more than four runs only once. Much of their offensive output depends on third baseman José Ramírez, who has yet to influence proceedings in this series — managing just one hit across seven plate appearances.
San Francisco Giants vs Cleveland Guardians Prediction
Given the form of both sides, the San Francisco Giants and the Cleveland Guardians are widely regarded as low-scoring teams. For instance, Total Under has landed in 62.5% of games in which the Cleveland Guardians have been road underdogs. With the San Francisco Giants sending their most effective starter to the mound, Total Under appears the safest play.
