Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Matchday 34 concludes with a clash between two of the league’s leaders. The fixture list has pitted Leeds against another top side immediately after their encounter with fourth-placed Sunderland. A win here would significantly boost Leeds’ chances of promotion to the Premier League.
Sheffield United
Sheffield United’s break has stretched to almost 10 days. Their last match was on February 15 against Luton Town. The underdogs put up a strong fight, even threatening to take the lead, but after squandering numerous chances (2.14 xG, 12 shots), Sheffield United finally broke the deadlock in the 79th minute, with centre-back Anel Ahmedhodzic scoring the winner.
Leeds United
Finding the net against Leeds will be even more difficult. While they might not be Burnley, who boast a league-leading nine goals conceded, Leeds’ tally of 20 is the second-best defensive record in the division. They did concede in their last match against Sunderland, but their opponents were incredibly clinical, hitting the target with all six of their shots. Leeds snatched a dramatic victory in injury time, exacting revenge for a late goal conceded against Sunderland earlier in the season.
Sheffield United vs Leeds United Prediction
A high-scoring game is unlikely here. Both teams boast well-organised defences. The head-to-head record also supports this: only one of the previous five encounters has seen more than 2.5 goals.
