Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Women’s EuroBasket match.
The draw made it clear from the outset that Group B of the Women's EuroBasket would be fiercely contested, with the fight for play-off qualification likely to be decided in the final round. Three teams in the group are battling for a place in the next stage, including Slovenia.
Slovenia (women)
Slovenia played three friendly matches in preparation for EuroBasket. They faced Great Britain twice, securing wins of 67:56 and 95:57, before comfortably defeating Montenegro 62:42. A few key points stand out. Firstly, Jessica Shepard, one of the squad's leaders, joined the team ahead of the final warm-up and contributed 18 points and 12 rebounds. Secondly, each of these opponents is regarded as significantly stronger than Lithuania.
Lithuania (women)
Lithuania also played three friendlies but managed only one win. They were narrowly beaten 67:73 by Sweden and then suffered a heavy 59:87 defeat against Greece. The loss to Greece was particularly concerning, given that Greece and Slovenia are close in the overall standings. As a result, Lithuania come into the opening round with little to play for.
Slovenia (women) vs Lithuania (women) Prediction
There is a notable gulf in class between the two sides. Slovenia are well aware that a slip-up could cost them dearly and will approach this clash against the group's underdog with full focus. Lithuania are unlikely to mount a serious challenge.
