Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Women's Volleyball Nations League match.
The Women's Nations League opens with a clash between two teams that struggled in the previous edition. While Germany appear to have addressed their shortcomings and come into this fixture in good form, South Korea continue to show inconsistency. Both squads will be eager to improve on last year’s performances, but Germany look better equipped to do so.
South Korea (women)
Currently ranked 35th, South Korea have lost 10 of their last 15 matches. Their campaign in last year’s Nations League was particularly disappointing, finishing second-to-last in their group. Their only wins came against fellow underperformers, France and Thailand. In the remaining fixtures, they managed to take just one set across ten defeats.
Germany (women)
Germany, ranked 12th, also struggled in the previous Nations League, securing only three victories from 12 matches. However, they have shown significant improvement since then, winning five of their last six games. This run includes a notable triumph over top-ranked Italy in a friendly, where they dropped only one set. In 2023, Germany reached the play-offs but were eliminated by Poland, ranked 6th, who went on to win the bronze medal.
South Korea (women) vs Germany (women) Prediction
Germany are in strong form and have dominated the recent head-to-head record, winning five straight matches against South Korea while conceding just three sets in total. With a recent victory over the world’s top-ranked Italy, Germany are unlikely to meet serious resistance in this fixture.
