Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the English Premier League match.
These clubs have already faced each other this season. In September, during the League Cup clash at Goodison Park, Everton conceded to Southampton after a 1:1 draw, eventually losing 5:6 on penalties. Following their victory over Everton, the team from the south coast of England played their next League Cup round match earlier this week.
Southampton
However, Southampton are yet to secure their first Premier League win since their return. Failing to do so again will extend their losing streak into double digits. For now, their victories are restricted to knocking out Championship sides in the League Cup. The additional midweek fixture likely didn’t aid their physical condition, as they had to field at least half of their starting lineup to overcome Stoke City, who put up a long fight. Southampton only managed to score the winning third goal in the 88th minute.
Everton
Everton are among four clubs unbeaten in the last five league rounds, ranking 4th-5th on points in this stretch. During this period, they defeated Crystal Palace at home and Ipswich Town away, while drawing against Leicester City away, and Newcastle United and Fulham at home. Admittedly, there are no top-tier teams among these opponents, but Southampton don’t belong to that category either.
Southampton vs Everton Prediction
In their recent encounter at St Mary's Stadium, Everton emerged victorious (2:1). We believe the extra load on the hosts and the form of the visitors will play a crucial role, hence we're backing a double chance in favour of Everton. Additionally, the last three meetings between these sides have seen both teams score, so we're also going for Both Teams to Score.
