Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the UEFA Nations League match.
After their triumphant victory at Euro 2024, Spain allowed themselves a bit of leniency in their September Nations League fixtures. Denmark will certainly have opportunities upfront; however, the favourites are expected to stifle their opponents with high pressing and a flurry of dangerous chances created down the flanks of Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams.
Spain
During their successful Euro 2024 campaign, Spain set a record by scoring 15 goals over 7 matches. Last month, against Serbia (0:0), the team didn’t push too hard against a well-organised defence—despite this, the statistics reflected their dominance (1.49 vs 0.73 xG and 22-9 in shots). However, against Switzerland (4:1), they displayed aggressive attacking play even after Robin Le Normand’s early dismissal—the opponent left gaps, leading to 2.07 xG and 8 shots on target in 90 minutes for the Spaniards.
Denmark
Entering their head-to-head with the reigning European champions, Denmark are topping the group. The Danish side did not drop any points against Switzerland and Serbia (both 2:0), although fortune favoured them in both matches. In the first encounter, the opposing team finished with nine men (both goals were scored after the 80th minute), and against Serbia, both shots on target resulted in goals.
Spain vs Denmark Prediction
In Murcia, Spain miss Robin Le Normand and Rodri Hernández, yet Spain's robust lineup still outmatches Denmark by a considerable margin. The underdogs have yet to resolve the issues that led to their early elimination from Euro 2024.
