Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the EuroBasket match.
In the final game of the group stage, Spain face Greece. Their head-to-head will decide the fate of Group C, because the outcome also affects Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Georgia. This is the headline fixture of the day, so the focus on it will be significant.
Spain
Spain are far from their best at this tournament. They have beaten only Bosnia and Herzegovina and Cyprus, the group's minnows. Recently they fell to Italy (63:67), showing an underwhelming offensive display: a 32.3% field-goal percentage and only 13 assists. Such a blueprint will not work against Greece, because it is very difficult to slow that offence.
Greece
Greece recently lost 77:80 to Bosnia and Herzegovina, but the reason is straightforward. The coaching staff, confident of progression, gave Giannis Antetokounmpo a rest day. In two games at the tournament he has averaged 29 points and 7.5 rebounds. Importantly, in his absence Kostas Sloukas impressed with 15 points and 8 rebounds. The veteran can still step up when needed.
Spain vs Greece Prediction
Greece are clear favourites, and that is entirely justified. Giannis Antetokounmpo has had a deserved rest and will return in optimal condition. Stopping him is close to impossible, and that task looks beyond Santi Aldama and Guillermo Hernangómez.
