Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Women’s EuroBasket match.
The clash between Spain and Germany is a straight contest for the top position in Group D. Both squads opened their campaigns with victories, so another two points here would virtually secure a play-off berth for the winner.
Spain (women)
There were initial concerns about Spain due to the absence of several key players. However, their opening performance silenced any doubts. They posted an impressive 85 points against Great Britain, with six different players contributing at least eight points. Their field goal accuracy was solid at 51.6%. That said, the Spaniards were outmuscled in the rebounding battle, losing 26:38 – an area that could be exploited by future opponents.
Germany (women)
Germany, meanwhile, dominated their opener against Sweden (89:76). They registered 22 assists, and four players scored at least 13 points. Rebounding will be a decisive factor against Spain, and the squad showed strength in that department, pulling down 37 boards, including seven on the offensive glass. Particularly impressive was the performance of Luisa Geiselsoder, their centre who recently joined from the WNBA. She delivered 20 points and added significant offensive presence after a string of underwhelming warm-up showings.
Spain (women) vs Germany (women) Prediction
Both squads have showcased potent attacking play while offering minimal resistance defensively. There’s little reason to expect a tactical shift in this head-to-head, so a high-scoring contest looks likely. The Total set by bookmakers should be exceeded with relative ease.
