Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Champions League match.
Rúben Amorim's departure is likely to impact Sporting CP's form in this high-stakes clash against Arsenal. The Portuguese side may struggle against the organised style of the London team, who need all three points after their defeat to Inter Milan (0:1). Arsenal will also be boosted by the return of some injured players.
Sporting CP
In the current Champions League campaign, Sporting have conceded only two goals across four matches, with just six teams boasting a better defensive record in the competition, Arsenal being one of them. Facing Manchester City (4:1) in the fourth round, Sporting deliberately played defensively, holding just 27% of possession. Under the guidance of interim coach João Pereira, Lisbon routed Amarante (6:0) in the Portuguese Cup. However, against a much stronger opponent, Sporting may falter.
Arsenal
Since the start of October, Arsenal have seen 4+ goals scored in only two of their ten matches across all competitions. In Milan against Inter, they failed to convert any of their opportunities, with an xG of 1.80 from 20 shots—Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard found it challenging without Martin Ødegaard in the lineup. With their captain back, Mikel Arteta is likely to rotate other positions, focusing their attention on the Premier League.
Sporting CP vs Arsenal Prediction
At Estádio José Alvalade, expect a game of limited chances between Sporting and Arsenal. Notably, Sporting will be without Pedro Gonçalves, and without their main creator, Viktor Gyökeres may not pose his usual threat.
