Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Scottish Premiership match.
Thanks to two recent away victories, St. Mirren are securely in the top six, but their home challenge will be significantly tougher against Rangers.
St. Mirren
In their first-round game at Ibrox, Rangers secured a narrow 2:1 win and St. Mirren needed only 0.63 xG and three shots on target to score. They equalised in the 26th minute rather than in the dying moments. Although St. Mirren don't have many chances of winning, they have only lost three of their nine matches. Only Celtic have defeated them by more than one goal (0:3).
Rangers
Rangers do occasionally demolish opponents, but it's a rare occurrence, only managing this away against a relegation-threatened Ross County side (3:0). There was also a baffling Europa League result against Nice (4:1). Rangers don't score much on the road—six goals in seven games, with three coming against Ross County.
St. Mirren vs Rangers Prediction
The Glasgow club could well drop points or win by no more than a single goal. They need to conserve energy, with another challenging away fixture against Motherwell in just two days. We predict, at worst, a narrow defeat for the home side.
