Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Women’s Champions League match.
The final stage of the Women's Champions League has proven too challenging for St. Pölten, who approach the concluding group stage match at the bottom of the table. Hammarby are the favourites, as they already defeated the Austrian side in their October encounter.
St. Pölten (women)
Persistent errors on their own half have led St. Pölten to concede a vast number of dangerous opportunities. They have let in 18 goals over five matches, with only Twente (19) and Galatasaray (28), who have played one more game, having worse defensive records in the entire competition. St. Pölten have been winless since November 21, suffering three defeats with an aggregate score of 2:8 during this period.
Hammarby (women)
While Hammarby aren’t far ahead of St. Pölten in the standings, their quality of play has been significantly better. Their matches against group leaders Manchester City (0:2 and 1:2) yielded a total of 19 shots, and the English side didn't even have possession advantage in the home leg. Hammarby will again employ their 4-2-3-1 formation, which provides a balance between defence and attack.
St. Pölten (women) vs Hammarby (women) Prediction
In the first round of the group stage, St. Pölten fell behind Hammarby early, with Cathinka Tandberg doubling the lead from the bench late on (2:0). The Swedish team are expected to handle the Austrians once more before heading off for a well-earned break.
