Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Ligue 1 match.
Stade Brestois have dropped into the relegation zone at the very start of the campaign and must try to climb out of it through a demanding fixture against Europa League participants OGC Nice.
Stade Brestois 29
Last season, Stade Brestois were even in the more prestigious Champions League, but that successful project in provincial France did not last. During the most recent summer transfer window the club sold the spine of the squad — Pierre Lees-Melou, Mahdi Camara and Lilian Brassier. The team even lost 1:2 to newly promoted Paris FC, where Pierre Lees-Melou now plays, and, essentially, Stade Brestois have conceded at least two goals in every match. That is why they sit second-bottom.
OGC Nice
OGC Nice aim to qualify for European competition again next season, so eighth place at present is unlikely to satisfy them. The team are inconsistent: a defeat is followed by a win, and then the pattern repeats. In theory, a defeat could be next, and it is plausible because on matchday three the team lost 1:3 away to Le Havre, a weaker side on paper.
Stade Brestois 29 vs OGC Nice Prediction
It is worth noting that on the final day of the previous campaign OGC Nice thrashed their opponents 0:6 on the Côte d’Azur, but that result should not carry much weight. Their opponents no longer had any motivation. At home, the hosts won 10 of 17 matches and drew three more. Therefore, their winless start does not stop us backing at least the double chance in their favour.
