Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Ligue 1 match.
Stade de Reims are just two points above the relegation play-off zone in Ligue 1, making this clash with struggling Saint-Étienne a must-win. The visitors are still battling to avoid the drop and, with two fixtures remaining, still have a chance of survival. However, their record in Reims is poor — they haven’t picked up a single point there since 2019.
Stade de Reims
Stade de Reims have shown signs of stabilising, collecting 11 points from their last seven matches after enduring a six-game losing run. During that stretch, their only defeats came against top-six sides OGC Nice and Strasbourg Alsace. Stade de Reims have adopted a more cautious approach, with only two of their last 11 matches since mid-February featuring over 2.5 total goals. Going forward, they’ve struggled all season, ranking third-lowest in the league with an average of one goal per game.
Saint-Étienne
Saint-Étienne have been woeful on the road, with just a single win in 16 away matches — a 2:0 result against fellow strugglers Montpellier. Defensively, Saint-Étienne have been the worst in the division, conceding 74 goals in 32 games. Their frailties at the back have only intensified, with 17 goals conceded in their last five outings. Even goalkeeper Gautier Larsonneur has had a difficult season, managing just four clean sheets.
Stade de Reims vs AS Saint-Étienne Prediction
Given Saint-Étienne’s disastrous away form and defensive issues, they’re likely to struggle again. Stade de Reims are well-placed to take advantage, or at the very least avoid defeat. Having won each of the last three encounters between the sides, the hosts carry a psychological advantage. With few goals expected, the total goals market offers additional appeal.
