Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Dubai match.
Tsitsipas is struggling time and again. The Greek was eliminated in the first round of both the Australian Open and Doha. Sonego, on the other hand, is playing the best tennis of his career, reaching the quarter-finals at the AO. Although the Italian has never beaten Tsitsipas, he’s now very close to securing his first victory over the Greek.
Stefanos Tsitsipas
Tsitsipas has endured a decidedly poor start to 2025, managing just two wins from five matches, suffering a defeat to an injured Hamad Medjedovic (6:7, 7:5, 6:7) in Doha, and crashing out of the Australian Open in the first round to Alex Michelsen (5:7, 3:6, 6:2, 4:6). Tsitsipas has faced Sonego three times, with each encounter proving to be a hard-fought affair. Two matches went to a tie-break, and the third was decided in a final set battle.
Lorenzo Sonego
The Italian has won six of his nine matches on outdoor hard courts in 2025. He reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open, overcoming Stanislas Wawrinka, João Fonseca and Fabian Marozsan along the way. This season, Sonego has already served up 102 aces, placing him within the top 10 in that particular statistic. However, Sonego’s matches this season have often gone the distance, with four out of six going over 23 games.
Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Lorenzo Sonego Prediction
Tsitsipas’ current form raises significant concerns. Sonego is in excellent shape, serving powerfully and looks poised to exploit the Greek’s struggles. Therefore, we’re backing Sonego with a positive handicap.
