Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Both clubs miscalculated their managerial changes this season. Stoke City are already on their third manager, yet results remain unimpressive, while Blackburn Rovers failed to secure a top-six spot even after parting ways with John Eustace.
Stoke City
Stoke City are tempting fate, and they risk paying the price. The gap between them and the relegation zone is now just four points, thanks to Derby County’s recent win. A victory over Blackburn Rovers is far from guaranteed, as the visitors sit much higher in the table in eighth place. Stoke City have been consistently struggling against playoff contenders, failing to beat any of them. Their only win in recent weeks came against Swansea City, who are no longer in that race.
Blackburn Rovers
Blackburn Rovers have been inside the top six for 27 of the 36 rounds this season, most recently after matchday 34. However, they slipped out following a draw with Norwich City (1:1) and failed to return immediately, suffering a shock defeat to Derby County (1:2). Blackburn Rovers created plenty of chances (1.61 xG) but were undone by poor goalkeeping from Aynsley Pears and defensive chaos in the opening 10 minutes.
Stoke City vs Blackburn Rovers Prediction
Stoke’s matches against stronger opponents have shown that the best they can realistically hope for is a draw. Blackburn, despite their inconsistency, possess more attacking potential—something they just need to start converting again. Earlier this season, they were consistently scoring two goals per game, and they are still capable of that. Given Stoke’s struggles, a double chance bet on the visitors seems the safest option.
