Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Ligue 1 match.
Both Strasbourg and Olympique de Marseille are sitting in the European places, and both come into this clash after wins over Parisian clubs last weekend. A victory for Marseille would see them leapfrog their hosts in the table.
Strasbourg
Strasbourg edged newly promoted Paris away in dramatic fashion (3:2). Four of the five goals came in the final quarter of the match, with Racing showing superior finishing despite Paris controlling almost 70% of possession in the second half. Remarkably, this was the third time in their last four matches that Strasbourg were involved in a 3:2 scoreline, twice ending in their favour.
Olympique de Marseille
Olympique de Marseille also celebrated, beating Paris Saint-Germain (1:0) at the Vélodrome in Le Classique. The team had fortune on their side, with several PSG players unavailable due to injury and Ballon d’Or commitments. The win, sealed by a Marquinhos Corrêa own goal, sent the home crowd wild but came with modest numbers – only nine shots, one on target. It was just the second time in Marseille’s last five games that the total stayed under 2.5 goals.
Strasbourg vs Olympique de Marseille Prediction
That looks unlikely to repeat here. Strasbourg’s new-look defence continues to leak chances almost every game, while Marseille’s Gerónimo Rulli has not always been the most reliable in goal. Given both sides’ recent trends, goals should be on the cards.
