Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Luton Town are sinking deeper into the relegation zone and could end this round at the very bottom of the table. Meanwhile, Sunderland are closing in on third-placed Burnley and need nothing but a win to keep up their promotion push.
Sunderland
Sunderland missed their chance to move into third place after a frustrating home draw against Watford (2:2) in the last round. They needed a late equaliser from left-back Dennis Cirkin to salvage a point, while top scorer Wilson Isidor (10 goals) provided an assist. That match was the third consecutive game in which Sunderland scored at least twice. At home, they have been particularly prolific, netting at least two goals in 10 of 15 matches this season, which has always been enough to secure at least a draw.
Luton Town
Luton Town have not won a Championship match since Boxing Day, a run now stretching to eight games. Their struggles are even worse away from home, where they have only won once all season – a victory over Millwall (1:0) on 14 September. In their other 14 away matches, they have suffered 12 defeats, conceding at least twice in 10 of those losses. Even their home form is disastrous, as they have failed to score in three consecutive matches.
Sunderland vs Luton Town Prediction
Sunderland are in much better form and have a clear advantage over a struggling Luton side. Unlike against Watford, Sunderland are unlikely to settle for a draw. Expect them to continue their scoring trend, netting at least twice to secure all three points.
