Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the CONCACAF Gold Cup match.
Suriname came into their opening match as clear underdogs and came heartbreakingly close to securing a point against Costa Rica, only to concede in added time and fall to a 3:4 defeat. Mexico also faced more resistance than anticipated in their opener but ultimately came away with a win. Expectations for Suriname have now diminished even further.
Suriname
Costa Rica netted the decisive penalty in the 103rd minute, marking their fourth goal of the game. Not even Keylor Navas could prevent the scoring. Suriname made the most of nearly every defensive lapse by their opponents. The team managed to create five clear chances and converted three of them.
Mexico
The current holders of the CONCACAF Gold Cup also found the net three times in their opener but had to battle for a 3:2 win over the Dominican Republic. In the first half, they applied heavy pressure, forcing even outfield players to clear the ball off the line. Mexico generated 1.28 xG and recorded nine shots on target. While they secured the victory, they currently sit second in their group standings.
Suriname vs Mexico Prediction
With a key clash against Costa Rica looming, Mexico will be looking to strengthen their position in the group. That requires not just a win, but a convincing one. Still, the opposition have already demonstrated they can capitalise on defensive errors. That underpins our combination bet.
