Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the WTA US Open match.
Iga Świątek opened the tournament in convincing fashion, dropping only three games, and she will now look to reaffirm her status as one of the leading favourites in the draw. For Suzan Lamens this is a serious test: she has only just ended a losing streak and will face an opponent of this calibre for the first time.
Suzan Lamens
Suzan Lamens arrived at this Grand Slam after a tough spell. She suffered three defeats in a row, including against the world No. 302, losing 2:6, 2:6. Even in her US Open opener, Suzan dropped six games to the world No. 902 and committed six double faults. Against top-20 opposition, Lamens has lost four of her last five matches in straight sets, without putting up much resistance.
Iga Świątek
Iga Świątek eased past Emiliana Arango in round one (6:2, 6:1), winning 88% of points behind her first serve and conceding only three points on it. Across her last 14 matches, Świątek has won in straight sets 13 times and lifted the title at the hard-court event in Cincinnati. Against opponents outside the top 40 on this surface, Iga rarely spends long on court — four of her last six such matches featured no more than 17 games.
Suzan Lamens vs Iga Świątek Prediction
Iga Świątek dominates from the baseline, is assured both on serve and on return, and Suzan Lamens lacks the tools to withstand that level of pressure. The match should end in a routine straight-sets win for Iga with a wide margin in games.
