Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the international friendly match.
On Friday, Sweden, despite missing key forwards Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyökeres, secured a comfortable 2:0 win over Hungary. Today, the squad will host Algeria in Solna. The visitors arrive on the back of two 2:0 wins against Rwanda within the past week.
Sweden
After failing to qualify for the UEFA Euro 2024 finals, Sweden underwent a period of internal restructuring. Relegation to League C of the UEFA Nations League may have proved beneficial, with the squad winning five of its six matches in the competition. Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyökeres were instrumental during that run, combining for 13 goals and six assists. In a recent friendly against Hungary, the coaching staff opted for a largely second-string squad, which still outperformed the hosts, registering seven shots on target to their five.
Algeria
In March, Algeria took a commanding lead in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying group, thrashing Mozambique (5:1) to extend their gap at the top to three points with four rounds remaining. Last week, the squad played two friendlies against Rwanda, fielding its first-choice line-up on Thursday. However, neither Riyad Mahrez nor Nabil Bentaleb had any impact on the scoresheet. Algeria appear to have regressed in recent years, with few, if any, emerging talents stepping into key roles.
Sweden vs Algeria Prediction
Sweden are currently valued at more than twice Algeria — €540 million compared with €244 million. The two sides last met in November 2022, with Sweden running out 2:0 winners. A similar result seems likely this time around.
