Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Women’s Euro match.
Sweden (women)
While Germany are on a longer winning streak — seven matches — Sweden remain unbeaten in their last 14 games, compared to just eight for their German counterparts. The Scandinavians have built their advantage on the back of a solid defensive record — unlike the Germans, they have yet to concede a goal at the UEFA Women’s Euro.
Germany (women)
Germany dominated both of their previous group stage fixtures, beating Poland (2:0) and Denmark (2:1). In the first match, they registered 25 shots, and in the second, 27. The Swedes, by contrast, needed only 40 shots (22+18) to reach the same total of four goals. Notably, they denied Denmark meaningful possession until the closing stages of the game. Meanwhile, Germany allowed Denmark into the match as early as the first half, which resulted in conceding a goal. One of their goals also came from the penalty spot.
Sweden (women) vs Germany (women) Prediction
Although Sweden failed to beat Germany in their last two head-to-head encounters — a 0:1 loss in the relatively minor 2020 Algarve Cup and a 0:0 draw in a 2023 friendly — the last competitive meeting between the two sides ended in a 2:1 victory for Sweden in the quarter-finals of the 2019 World Cup. Given the current form and defensive solidity, we expect them to come away with at least a point.
