Switzerland
Following their win in the first game versus Hungary (3:1), Switzerland could hardly manage to perform in the attacking line against Scotland (1:1). Switzerland had only 2 dangerous attempts after Shaqiri scored his goal. Both moments ended with goals that were disallowed by the referee. The statistics of 1.03 xG and 4 attempts on target within 90 minutes against Scotland prove that Germany are the strongest in this group.
Germany
The host nation played well in the first game against Scotland (5:1). After that, Germany easily beat Hungary (2:0). Reserve players had their chance in the second half of the game against Hungary. Füllkrug, Sané, Can, Fürich and Undav have little chance to play a knockout stage game. The second half saw only 0.74 xG created by Germany with 60% ball possession. This is what we´re likely to see in the 3rd round.
Switzerland – Germany prediction
One point should be enough for the Swiss side to qualify for the knockout phase. Germany won’t mind a draw either. They won’t lose first position in this case anyway. The second round proved that these sides are able to turn an energy saving mode on. No one needs the victory come hell or high water.
