Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Nations League match.
With two rounds remaining until the end of the Nations League group stage, Switzerland are on the brink of relegation to Division B. At home against Serbia, the team are likely to take risks: they need to score goals, which will open them up and give their opponents chances on the counter.
Switzerland
In September and October, Switzerland conceded a total of 10 goals across four matches—their defence, led by new first-choice goalkeeper Gregor Kobel, is still struggling to find cohesion. In each of their four Nations League fixtures, the Swiss have allowed at least two goals, and in Leskovac against Serbia (0:2), they registered 0.66 xGA with four shots on target. Murat Yakin is likely to stick with the 3-4-3 formation, but currently, there is a noticeable lack of experienced defenders in the squad.
Serbia
Serbia are unlikely to secure the second playoff spot, but a draw against Switzerland would see them through to the playoffs. In their previous match against Spain (0:3), Dragan Stojković opted to field reserves, with only Aleksandar Mitrović and Strahinja Pavlović retaining their usual positions, leading to a questionable result. Playing away against the group's underdog, Serbia will find it advantageous to exploit counter-attacks.
Switzerland vs Serbia Prediction
Since June 2018, Switzerland have conceded at least one goal in all three meetings with Serbia. It appears the shaky Swiss defence will once again make mistakes, which Serbia will likely capitalise on.
