Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the UFC on ABC 8 match.
Myktybek Orolbai
Myktybek is expected to close the distance behind a jab before looking to connect with a powerful hook. He is likely to lean back to avoid kicks, then immediately re-enter striking range. After slipping a shot from Musayev, he may counter with an overhand right followed by a high kick. In striking exchanges, Orolbai is likely to level-change aggressively and drive towards the body, aiming to pin his opponent to the fence. He may also look to catch Tofiq’s shin when defending another long-range low kick. If the bout hits the mat, Myktybek will look to transition quickly into a submission attempt.
Tofiq Musayev
Tofiq will look to land clean straight punches and sharp inside leg kicks. He will target the midsection with punishing body kicks while staying mobile laterally. To avoid being taken down, Musayev will aim to keep the contest at range and vary his striking angles. He will try to bait Myktybek into entering the pocket, where he can counter with hooks. He’s preparing a powerful uppercut to time against any takedown attempts. If Tofiq senses Orolbai shooting for a leg, he’ll look to quickly shift his hips back and pivot out of danger.
Betting Odds
Despite his experience and striking pedigree, Tofiq Musayev is viewed as the underdog. Myktybek Orolbai is considered the more well-rounded athlete, with the physicality to match Musayev in durability. The odds on an Orolbai win are 8/13.
With Tofiq Musayev expected to spend much of the fight on takedown defence and managing range, he may struggle to fully implement his striking arsenal. A bet on a Musayev win is available at 13/10.
Tofiq Musayev vs Myktybek Orolbai Prediction
Orolbai could find it difficult to deal with a striker as quick and dynamic as Musayev. The Azerbaijani’s speed and sharp kicking game will force Myktybek to spend time finding his range and may limit his opportunities to drag the fight to the canvas. Given his agility and knockout power, Tofiq seems underestimated. While an early finish in the first round appears unlikely, he should be able to capitalise as the fight progresses. Despite the tough stylistic matchup for a debut, it’s worth noting that Musayev has proven himself against elite competition in both Rizin FF and Bellator MMA. He is backed to secure a knockout late in the second round.
