Adam Williams presents his prediction for the Scottish Open snooker match.
Tom Ford
Tom Ford has finally claimed his first title. It's been a long journey for Tom since he debuted on tour in 2001. Ford had played in three finals prior, losing all three. Tom has been edging closer to his first trophy over the past three years. He first reached the final of the German Masters but lost to Ali Carter (10-3). Then, in the last season, he reached the final of the International Championship but was defeated by Zhang Anda (10-6). Now, at last, Ford has secured his first trophy at the Shoot-Out, overcoming Liam Graham. Although this may not be the prestigious title he previously contested, it is a long-awaited victory, especially for Ford himself. There were concerns that Ford might struggle to regain focus for subsequent matches after such an emotional tournament, but Tom commenced the tournament in Glasgow with two confident victories—first defeating Antoni Kowalski (4-2), and then overcoming Neil Robertson (4-1) yesterday. While Ford didn't produce many breaks in the match against Neil, he controlled the game well and played with great confidence.
Long Zehuang
Long Zehuang should not be underestimated, as this player has already defeated Mark Selby and Jack Lisowski this season. He contested evenly with Mark Allen and Gary Wilson, losing only in the deciding frame. In Glasgow, Long beat the current champion Gary Wilson (4-2) and Joe O'Connor (4-3). Although Long is currently in 64th place in the overall rankings, he seems poised to remain on the tour after this season, as he plays with a lot of solidity and maturity.
Tom Ford vs Long Zehuang Prediction
Tom Ford is the bookmaker's favourite, and rightly so, but we believe Long could pose a significant challenge. Both players are on an upward trajectory, both strive to play attacking snooker, and both are capable of making impressive breaks, so we think we're in for a thrilling match that could end 4-2 or 4-3 in either direction.
