Adam Williams presents his prediction for the NHL match.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have already clinched a place in the playoffs and are set to meet the Ottawa Senators in the postseason. For now, they’ll be aiming to wrap up the regular season on a high and extend their home winning streak to seven games. The Detroit Red Wings, by contrast, have been officially ruled out of playoff contention and are playing out their remaining fixtures without tournament pressure. Given their ongoing struggles and injuries, motivation appears to be lacking.
Toronto Maple Leafs
The Maple Leafs are in fine form, having put together four consecutive wins. Notably, these include victories over formidable opponents such as the Tampa Bay Lightning (4:3 OT), the Carolina Hurricanes (4:1), and the Buffalo Sabres (4:0). In their latest game against the Buffalo Sabres, the Toronto Maple Leafs were clinical in front of goal despite recording fewer shots (32-35). Particularly impressive was goaltender Anthony Stolarz, who kept a clean sheet. On the offensive end, William Nylander has been a standout performer, registering 45 goals over the season — the second-highest tally in the league. Mitchell Marner has also been exceptional, tallying 100 points (27 goals and 73 assists), which places him fifth overall in the NHL. The Maple Leafs have been dominant on home ice, winning six straight games with a combined scoreline of 24:7.
Detroit Red Wings
The Red Wings have been inconsistent of late, alternating between wins and losses. Over their last six outings, they've notched up four victories but also suffered two heavy defeats at the hands of the Montreal Canadiens and the Florida Panthers, both by a 1:4 scoreline. Injuries to Andrew Copp and the absence of Jeffrey Petry have left the team lacking depth. Away from home, the Red Wings have struggled badly — just 38 points from 40 road games, placing them 10th in the Eastern Conference in that category.
Toronto Maple Leafs vs Detroit Red Wings Prediction
The Toronto Maple Leafs are in excellent shape, especially at home, and have consistently performed well against weaker opposition. The Detroit Red Wings, on the other hand, have been poor on the road, conceding more than three goals per game on average and lacking cohesion. The Toronto Maple Leafs have already beaten the Detroit Red Wings twice this season, and are widely expected to complete a clean sweep with another home victory.
