Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the English Premier League match.
Round 15 is rich with derby action, featuring the Merseyside clash, Fulham against Arsenal, and this standout London derby, possibly the most significant in terms of league ambitions. Tottenham Hotspur sit 10th but clearly harbour Champions League aspirations, while Chelsea already occupy that coveted zone, even surpassing Arsenal. With such an opponent it will be difficult to hold on to second place, but they can certainly try.
Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur’s position on the edge of the top ten is understandable. Recent performances explain a lot. They either squander opportunities as seen with AS Roma (2:2 with 3.74 xG), or they miss chances when opponents forgive too much, like in games against Fulham (1:1 with 1.58 xGA and a hit on the woodwork) and Bournemouth (0:1 with 3.71 xGA and 17 Bournemouth' shots).
Chelsea
Under Enzo Maresca, Chelsea show no mercy. Southampton’s defensive errors led to a 5:1 triumph for the visitors. They had overwhelming physical and mental dominance, with 5.43 xG from 26 shots and 12 scoring chances. In round 13 against Aston Villa (3:0) their finishing was even better than their 1.69 xG. Chelsea are on a four-match winning streak and a seven-match unbeaten run.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Chelsea Prediction
With Chelsea in such form, it’s clear Tottenham Hotspur won't avoid defeat, so we’ll back the visitors.
