Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the EFL Cup match.
The entire Doncaster Rovers squad are valued at €6.3m, which is roughly the same as Ben Davies, who is no longer starting for Tottenham Hotspur and was not named in the matchday squad for the last game against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Tottenham Hotspur
That meeting with Brighton & Hove Albion ended 2:2, although Tottenham Hotspur could have lost: late in the first half they trailed 0:2. That latest setback has not stopped the team remain in the English Premier League top three. In last season’s EFL Cup they were eliminated only in the semi-finals, losing a two-legged tie to Liverpool (1:0, 0:4). The last time Tottenham Hotspur were eliminated by a lower-league side was in autumn 2019, when they lost on penalties to Colchester United of League Two in the round of 32 (0:0, 3:4 on penalties).
Doncaster Rovers
Doncaster Rovers last beat an English Premier League club in 2005, defeating Aston Villa (3:0) in the fourth round of the EFL Cup. They also faced English Premier League opposition in February of this year in the Challenge Cup, losing 0:2 to Crystal Palace. In League One, Doncaster Rovers are currently seventh, with an even tally of goals scored and conceded (10 and 10) after nine rounds.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Doncaster Rovers Prediction
It's tough to call the over or under, but Tottenham Hotspur should win. This season, they have scored more than two goals in a match only twice in seven attempts. On that basis, we're pairing the win with the under.
