Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the EFL Cup match.
Among the League Cup quarter-finals, the standout match is undoubtedly Thursday's clash in London. Two evenly matched sides with similar ambitions, neither of whom are currently playing in the Champions League, will face off.
Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur enjoyed an easy outing in the last Premier League round against Southampton (5:0). Before that, they had an away match in the Europa League against Rangers (1:1). Their most recent home game is one they'd rather forget—a 3:4 defeat to Chelsea, where Tottenham led 2:1 with 30 minutes left. They faced Manchester United a month before Erik ten Hag's dismissal and won at Old Trafford (3:0).
Manchester United
Manchester United are now a different side—more spirited, resilient, much like their manager on the touchline. Ruben Amorim's problems haven’t significantly lessened. Just as most of the defenders recovered, in the successful derby at the Etihad against Manchester City (2:1), Mason Mount had to be substituted in the 14th minute with an apparent long-term leg injury, possibly ruling him out against Tottenham Hotspur, and there’s a possibility Noussair Mazraoui will also miss out. However, Tottenham have even more injury issues, with about a dozen players sidelined.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United Prediction
The match at Old Trafford was typical, featuring numerous goals, as seen in three of the last five previous meetings, all having total over 2.5 goals. We recommend betting on this, as predicting the winner from this pairing is quite challenging.
