Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the US Open match.
In the second round of the US Open, Andrey Rublev is set to face the young American Tristan Boyer. The Russian is the favourite, but the home player should keep it close with the backing of the home crowd.
Tristan Boyer
Tristan Boyer may not have much experience at Grand Slam events, yet he has found decent form recently. He defeated James Duckworth, Brandon Holt and Aleksandar Kovacevic, and he pushed the solid Jakub Menšík and Jiří Lehečka, winning at least eight games in those matches. Moreover, in four of his last five matches against higher-ranked opponents, Boyer managed to take at least one set. The home support is an additional factor that can help him take sets.
Andrey Rublev
Andrey Rublev opened the tournament confidently, beating the Croatian Dino Prižmić (6:4, 6:4, 6:4). However, he had a poor serving day with a first-serve percentage of just 49%. He also tends to allow opponents to make inroads. At hard-court tournaments this summer, Rublev conceded at least nine games in 10 of 13 matches.
Tristan Boyer vs Andrey Rublev Prediction
Andrey Rublev remains the favourite, but a rout looks unlikely. The American should hold serve regularly and offer serious resistance at times.
