Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Women's EuroBasket match.
Turkey narrowly missed out on reaching the semi-finals and now face the challenge of competing in the consolation bracket. The key question is whether the squad can find the motivation to bounce back after such a disappointing elimination.
Turkey (women)
In the quarter-finals, Turkey suffered a narrow overtime defeat to Italy, losing 74:76. Sevgi Uzun and Teaira McCowan were standout performers, combining for 36 points and 13 rebounds. However, the team’s defensive shortcomings proved costly. They managed just two blocks and three steals, while also committing 15 turnovers against 19 assists. These statistics underline why their elimination was ultimately deserved.
Germany (women)
Germany were unlucky with their quarter-final draw, having to face tournament favourites Belgium. The result was a heavy defeat, though the squad’s clear tactical structure remained visible. Frieda Bühner, Luisa Geiselsöder, and Emily Bessoir all scored in double figures. Had it not been for Emma Meesseman’s 30-point performance for Belgium, the team might have stood a better chance. Fortunately for Germany, Turkey do not have a player of that calibre.
Turkey (women) vs Germany (women) Prediction
Germany have demonstrated consistency in their performances. While their execution can be erratic, they remain committed to their tactical approach, and their key players continue to deliver. This is precisely what Turkey have been lacking. Backing the visitors with a +6.5 handicap appears to be the most sensible option.
