Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Europa League match.
An unexpected dip in form has left Nice among the main underdogs of the European campaign. Union Saint-Gilloise have been playing outstanding football since late October, with an unbeaten run stretching to nine matches, during which the Belgians have handled tougher opponents than Nice.
Union Saint-Gilloise
Away at Twente (1:0), Union Saint-Gilloise were able to find space with ease, creating 2.07 xG and nine shots on target in 90 minutes, compared to their opponents' 0.80 xG and three shots on target. Recently, they succeeded domestically against two giants: they defeated Antwerp (2:1) in the Belgian Pro League and then knocked Gent out of the Belgian Cup (3:2). Union Saint-Gilloise appear exceedingly confident at this stage of the season.
OGC Nice
Following the November international break, Nice suffered two painful defeats—to Rangers and Olympique Lyonnais (both 1:4). Against the Scots, they conceded four goals by the 54th minute, ultimately allowing 2.30 xGA. The weekend's win over Le Havre (2:1) is unlikely to ignite Nice's attacking aggression, as they are severely lacking injured players (nine first-team members remain in the infirmary).
Union Saint-Gilloise vs OGC Nice Prediction
In Brussels, Union Saint-Gilloise will find ways to breach Nice's defence. They are in excellent form and should be able to handle the struggling opposition.
