Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Copa América Femenina match.
A women’s edition of “El Clásico” sees Uruguay face Argentina in Guayaquil at the Copa América. While Uruguay have already begun their campaign, Argentina are making their tournament debut.
Uruguay (women)
In the men’s competition, Uruguay claimed bronze at the previous Copa América, but the Uruguay women's national football team were unable to advance past the group stage. In their current opener, the team drew 2:2 against the hosts, Ecuador, despite holding a two-goal advantage. Between the 72nd and 78th minutes, the visitors conceded twice, throwing away their lead. After the interval, the team found it difficult to regain control: Ecuador recorded ten shots, four of them on target, while Uruguay managed just one effort on goal.
Argentina (women)
Argentina recently played two friendlies in Australia, both of which ended in defeat. Australia secured routine wins, 2:0 and 4:1, underlining the gap in quality. It’s worth remembering that Australia finished fourth at the 2022 World Cup, whereas Argentina ended bottom of their group. Uruguay, meanwhile, failed to qualify for the tournament.
Uruguay (women) vs Argentina (women) Prediction
Despite a respectable result in their opener, Uruguay are unlikely to seriously challenge their rivals. While the fixture carries historical weight, the expected outcome is similar to their previous Copa América encounter, where Argentina recorded a dominant 5:0 win.
