Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the NHL match.
The Vancouver Canucks have incurred some significant losses, but all in the interest of the organisation. Their acquisitions are likely to bring even greater benefits. In contrast, the Calgary Flames' current issues may not lead to anything positive.
Vancouver Canucks
Rick Tocchet no longer has Elias Lindholm at his disposal, but since the trade deadline move from the Calgary Frames, the Swede never fully integrated into the coach's system. Nikita Zadorov, in less than a season, contributed significantly to the Canucks, although his demands turned out to be high as well. Interestingly, the Russian also came from the Flames. However, they saved nearly $13 million, which allowed for the acquisition of players fitting the coach's vision. The most expensive signing was Jake DeBrusk from the Boston Bruins, while the most valuable was the hard-working Daniel Sprong. Both are intended for the top lines.
Calgary Flames
You can see the smart moves made by the Canucks' management. In Alberta, however, they're making decisions that seem neither aimed at contending for the playoffs nor fully committing to a rebuild. They've stagnated mid-way, and this state of uncertainty is the most unsettling. After seven seasons, the Flames' draft pick Andrew Mangiapane has departed, along with first-choice goaltender Jacob Markstrom. As such, the Flames currently lack a playoff-level goalkeeper.
Vancouver Canucks vs Calgary Flames Prediction
Remember the Canucks' impressive start last season when they won 12 of their first 16 games? The team won three of four games against the Flames last season. Expect them to secure victory in their season opener.
