Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the WTA 1000 Miami Open match.
Veronika Kudermetova, after an early elimination from Indian Wells, managed to pass the first round in Miami, a tournament where she reached the Round of 16 in 2022. However, her next opponent is the unstoppable Mirra Andreeva, who has already won two WTA-1000 titles this season and is currently riding a 12-match winning streak. Kudermetova’s chances against Andreeva seem slim.
Veronika Kudermetova
Kudermetova comfortably won her first-round match against Wang Xinyu (6:2, 7:6), not dropping a single serve. However, when facing high-level opponents, Kudermetova has struggled. This season, she has lost 7 of her last 10 matches against players ranked in the top 30. Since the start of the year, she has been eliminated in the early rounds of tournaments: in the second round of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and in the first round in Indian Wells and Doha.
Mirra Andreeva
The 17-year-old Russian is the breakout star of the season. After winning two back-to-back WTA-1000 titles, she has climbed to No. 6 in the WTA rankings and is on a 12-match winning streak. Andreeva has been in superb form on hard courts, with her serve being a key weapon—she has delivered at least five aces in her last two matches. Her main strength is her reliable, error-free play, making just 10 double faults in her last six matches.
Veronika Kudermetova vs Mirra Andreeva Prediction
Andreeva is in fantastic form and has already proven her class against top players. The two have never faced off before, but Andreeva’s playing style is difficult for Kudermetova, who tends to struggle against aggressive opponents. Given this, Andreeva with a -3.5 game handicap seems like a strong bet, as she only needs to secure a small advantage in each set to cover the handicap.
