The opening round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome features a match-up between two similarly ranked players: world No. 54 Victoria Azarenka and world No. 55 Camila Osorio. However, there is a significant age difference — the Belarusian is 35, while the Colombian is just 23.

This generational contrast is also evident in their respective performances this season. Camila Osorio has claimed 11 wins in her 17 matches, while Victoria Azarenka has managed just 4 victories from 11 outings. The Colombian appears to be on an upward curve, while her opponent is showing signs of decline. This disparity is reflected in their current form, with Osorio coming into the match in a more promising position. The two players have faced each other once before — also in Rome — three years ago. On that occasion, Azarenka won in straight sets in the round of 32 (6:2, 6:4). Back in 2022, she maintained a place inside the top 30 and even reached No. 15 that spring. This year, however, she began the season at No. 30 but has since seen her ranking almost halved.

In contrast, Camila Osorio reached her career-best ranking of No. 33 in April 2022, marking the peak of her career to date. That said, she currently looks stronger physically and demonstrates greater consistency. It’s worth noting that nearly half of her victories this season came at the WTA 250 event in Bogotá, which she won on home soil.

Still, Camila Osorio is expected to come through this encounter — perhaps not without a fight, but with a slight advantage. A handicap bet is worth considering, but we’re backing her to win outright.
