Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the WTA Montreal match.
Young Canadian Victoria Mboko (WTA No. 85) has firmly established herself as the breakout star of the tournament. Fuelled by home support, she’s stormed into the quarter-finals and shows no signs of slowing down.
Victoria Mboko
In the round of 16, Mboko pulled off a sensational upset by dismantling top seed Coco Gauff (WTA No. 2) in straight sets (6:1, 6:4), giving the American no room to breathe. Her aggressive baseline game continues to be a decisive factor — even Gauff failed to win a single return game. Mboko’s booming serve also proved lethal against Sofia Kenin (WTA No. 26), firing 12 aces to just 3 double faults.
Jessica Bouzas Maneiro
Jessica Bouzas Maneiro (WTA No. 54) has benefited from a favourable draw to reach this stage. Her toughest test so far came against Ashlyn Krueger (WTA No. 29), the only top-100 player she has faced in the tournament. In her latest match, the Spaniard had to dig deep to overcome Lin Zhu (WTA No. 493), struggling early before turning it around (5:7, 6:1, 6:2) — hardly a convincing performance.
Victoria Mboko vs Jessica Bouzas Maneiro Prediction
Mboko is in blistering form, and that emphatic win over Gauff has put her on a direct path to the title. It’s difficult to see Bouzas Maneiro offering enough resistance to derail her.
